Some of these old gravestones were found in the foundations of an old theatre which was pulled down in the 1930's. One gravestone is stored in the Rochester Museum. A gravestone from this cemetary is said to be of Abraham Abrahams who was executed in 1819, for what crime is not clear in the records.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609908745803964821.post-62488630099119673862009-12-14T18:02:54.699+00:002009-12-14T18:02:54.699+00:00CemeteryScribes would like to thank Dr Cyril Fox f...CemeteryScribes would like to thank Dr Cyril Fox for reminding us of his article in Shemot 2000 Vol 8 No.2 which includes a list of inscriptions from Bancroft Cemetery transcribed 19.3.87 by Henry Wootton the Librarian at Bancroft Rd (Tower Hamlets) Family History Library.Site99https://www.blogger.com/profile/08851067539459123604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609908745803964821.post-73662747042414823892009-12-14T18:02:28.537+00:002009-12-14T18:02:28.537+00:00CemeteryScribes would like to thank Eric Samuel fo...CemeteryScribes would like to thank Eric Samuel for adding Philip PHILLIPS died 18th January 1918 Minister Maiden Lane /Western Synagogues to our growing list – keep them coming!!Site99https://www.blogger.com/profile/08851067539459123604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609908745803964821.post-43951707179863597092009-12-14T00:03:56.903+00:002009-12-14T00:03:56.903+00:00CemeteryScribes would like to thank Harold Pollins...CemeteryScribes would like to thank Harold Pollins for suppliying additional burial details and corrections to the four entries he supplied today.Site99https://www.blogger.com/profile/08851067539459123604noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609908745803964821.post-31805017867323938932009-12-13T15:23:56.844+00:002009-12-13T15:23:56.844+00:00Congratulations must go the the United Synagogue ...Congratulations must go the the United Synagogue Burial Society in providing assistance in tidying up the Cemetery.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609908745803964821.post-35919975574596180812009-12-12T21:57:56.769+00:002009-12-12T21:57:56.769+00:00It takes only one person to let others know about ...It takes only one person to let others know about a place that needs care. Was the deceased encoffined at the time of death, where did the tahara take place, who provided the shrouds, who provided the horse drawn cart, horses have to eat, at what inns did they stay, when they arrived at the cemetery, who was there to greet them, who dug the grave, think about it, in those far off days, no mobile telephones, no running water (tahara) how was it possible for burials to take place within a day or so fo those passing away say in Dover or Portsmouth, etc.lennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2609908745803964821.post-56369657646145990152009-06-15T02:55:16.493+01:002009-06-15T02:55:16.493+01:00enjoyed your blog, keep up the great workenjoyed your blog, keep up the great workFIND A GRAVEMARKERhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14111889423393270982noreply@blogger.com
